Tualatin to Astoria, Oregon

We were in the Portland area May 1st - 3rd and spent the time with Patrick. I put him to work updating my Vista OS to Windows 7 on my PC laptop. I think I like it a lot better. We did a lot of catching up, shared memories and laughed a great deal. As always it was hard to say good-bye.

Next stop on our itinerary was to visit Cannon Beach and get a picture or two of Haystack Rock. The infamous landmark from the opening scene of the 1985 movie, "Goonies". Cannon Beach is a very picturesque town. However, it was next to impossible to find a place to park in order to explore. Maybe it was because of the 40' motor home towing a 25' trailer that made it such a challenge. I would love to explore this area, but it will have to be on another trip. If you want to refresh your memory of the opening scene , go to http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/df/Cannon_Beach_02.jpg.

Astoria, Oregon was another destination on our list of places. Why? The Astoria-Megler Bridge which is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America (
total length 21,474 ft ) spanning the mouth of the Columbia River between Astoria, Oregon and Point Ellice near Megler, Washington. The span is the last segment of Rt 101 between Olympia, Washington and Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately the weather was nasty and the bridge is so long-g-g-g it wasn't conducive to a good "Kodak moment". Impressive none-the-less.
